Adult Sailing Program – Beginner Course
The Adult Learn to Sail Program provided by NOLSC offers beginner, intermediate, and advanced courses that provide a comprehensive and hands-on sailing experience.
The beginner course is held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings (6 -9pm) for 3 weeks in May, June, July, and August.
The course is designed for individuals who are completely new to sailing, and teaches participants:
- Basic sailing skills
- Outboard engine operation
- Docking and launching
- On water Safety

Adult Sailing Program – Intermediate Course
The intermediate course is held on Monday and Friday evenings (6-9pm) for 3 weeks in May and June. The course slowly builds upon the skills learned in the beginner level and aims to:
- Refine basic sailing skills
- Introduce participants to intermediate sailing skills
- Teach participants to competently use a spinnaker and adjust sail controls
- Introduce participants to basic right of way and racing rules

Adult Sailing Program – Advanced Course
The Advanced course is offered on select Saturday afternoons (12:30 to 5:00 pm) in May and June for 4 weeks.
The course builds upon the skills learned in the intermediate level. The course includes:
- Introduction to Racing and the Racing Rules of Sailing
- Getting around the Race Course
- Start line tactics and strategies
- Upwind and downwind tactics
- Maximizing Speed upwind and downwind
- Advanced sail controls

All sailing lessons are conducted on a 24ft keelboat with a maximum of 4 individuals per boat, providing individualized, one-on-one sailing instruction.
